The practice of burning sage (known as smudging) has been widespread in folklore and traditions across Europe for two thousand years.
Many diverse cultures including Celtic druids, Norse Vikings, plus local healers and practitioners of witchcraft have associated sage with wisdom and long life, in particular in burning sage for the purification of a space, person or group of people.
Smudge sticks are bundles of sage used to create a cloud of sage smoke for healing, banishing negativity and creating a clean, positive and sacred space.
We have a good range of smudge sticks and also have abalone shells which are used in smudging as ash catchers.
For instructions on how to use smudge sticks see our Information Pages.
